Garra rufa or doctor fish is a species of freshwater fish which lives in water pH of about 7.2 and temperature about 35 Degrees Celsius all year. They breed in the river basins and hot springs of the North and Central Middle East, mainly Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. They are very good at healing people affected with psoriasis by niblbing away the affected and dead areas of skin leaving the healthy skin to grow underneath to grow. Garra rufa has various names and is often called kangal fish, nibble fish and doctor fish. In non medical terms Garra rufa is also called reddish log sucker. Though, spas are not ment to be a treatment centre the majority of Turkish spas breed the doctor fish in outdoor pools. Patients come here regularly for temporary cure of the symptoms  and in some cases inspite of the unpredictable nature of the disease, some patients have experienced complete cure as a result of their repeated exposure to the doctor fish. Garra rufa can be kept in the aquarium home as well as in spar centres. For spas it is advised if possible not to feed them on fish food to regular as it may effect their skin-feeding behaviour. In the home aquarium specimens are not situated for treatment of skin disease due to the lack of skin for food. It has been shown experimentally that food deprivation is the reason why the fish eat off man.
